This was late May, a spring of dust and drought in a place that drinks just 17 inches of rain a year. In contrast, Milwaukee — where I now live — receives more than twice that in rainfall, and more again in snow. But here… here, in this sun-baked sanctuary, every blade of grass, every ripple of stone, whispers endurance. This image wasn’t captured quickly.
